New Chair Appointed by PRPA Board of Directors


EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 13, 2024

PRINCE RUPERT, BRITISH COLUMBIA – The Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA) announced today that Peter Lantin has been unanimously appointed as Chair by its Board of Directors for a two-year term, effective July 1st, 2024.

Initially appointed to the PRPA Board of Directors by the Government of British Columbia in 2019, Mr. Lantin is currently in his second term as the provincial appointee. During his tenure on the Board, he has served as Vice Chair, Chair of the Sustainability and Audit Committees, and as a member of the Human Resources & Compensation Committee.

Mr. Lantin has over two decades of experience in financial administration and governance and was the elected President of the Haida Nation from 2012 to 2018. Prior to that position, he was Chair for the Gwaii Trust, a society that owns and manages a perpetual fund for the benefit of all the people of Haida Gwaii. He was also the Chief Operating Officer for TRICORP, an Indigenous-owned capital corporation that supports and finances economic development initiatives, local entrepreneurs and small business, and skills and training for Indigenous communities throughout Northwest B.C.

“Peter has made significant contributions to the Board of Directors over the past five years and his dedication, knowledge, and expertise make him uniquely suited to assume this key leadership role,” said Shaun Stevenson, President and CEO of the Prince Rupert Port Authority. “We look forward to continuing to work closely with Peter and the other Directors to further strengthen our organization and guide the Prince Rupert Gateway through this unprecedented period of development, expansion, and diversification.”

“The Port of Prince Rupert’s future is bright, and these next several years are pivotal in its evolution as an intermodal logistics and export hub,” said Mr. Lantin. “I am grateful to my fellow Board members for entrusting me with this responsibility and I am excited to continue to advance sustainable growth initiatives and further anchor the Port as a critical global trade gateway.”

The Prince Rupert Port Authority’s Board of Directors is comprised of seven people. Three of the Board members are appointed directly by each level of government—municipal, provincial, and federal—while the balance is appointed by the federal government in consultation with the Port User Nominating Committee. Board members are appointed for a term of no more than three years with a maximum tenure of three terms.
