Community Committees

The Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA) is committed to informing, engaging with, and investing in local residents and the surrounding communities. By building a strong foundation of dialogue and understanding, we’re building a sustainable future for the Port together.

The Prince Rupert Port Authority ensures growth is responsible, sustainable, and reflects the values and priorities of local communities and First Nations. That means we can strive to improve quality of life in balance with the economic development, employment, and industrial tax base for everyone to benefit.

Community Information Forum

The Community Information Forum was created in January 2014 in order to provide an ongoing opportunity for dialogue around PRPA’s operations and Port development in general. The forum offers an opportunity for a wide variety of individuals and organizations in Prince Rupert to learn about various activities related to the Port and provide input to PRPA on issues of concern.

The forum is not a decision-making body but does assist PRPA in understanding how the public feels about various aspects of the Prince Rupert Port Authority’s activities.

The Community Information Forum provides an opportunity for members to:

  • Collectively access information and learn about topics relevant to PRPA’s mandate and activities
  • Identify and discuss areas of community interest or concern that are relevant to PRPA and the Port
  • Establish relationships with other community members and their represented interests
  • Serve as a link to the general public

The membership of the Community Information Forum is voluntary and reflects a broad number of stakeholders and interests in order to provide a place for the sharing of diverse viewpoints and experiences. More specifically, participation includes a broad set of community interests, including (but not limited to) representatives from environmental groups, indigenous groups, business associations, municipal governments, community organizations, and unaffiliated members of the general public.  If you’re interested in joining this forum, please email us.

Port Environmental Stewardship Committee

Environmental Stewardship Partnerships

The Port Environmental Stewardship Committee provides a forum for data sharing, communication, and collaboration. It is comprised of port partners like tenants and port users, First Nations, government agencies, NGOs, academics, proponents, and community members. Various Port programs use working groups from the Committee to provide advice, direction and to collaborate on projects like the Marine Mammal Program, Shorezone mapping, the Pollution Tracker program, the aquatic invasive species initiative, and shoreline clean-ups, to name a few.
