Constructed in 1978 as Ridley Terminals Inc., Trigon Pacific Terminals provides an export point for the vast reserves of metallurgical and thermal coal in northern British Columbia and Alberta. 

Trigon Pacific Terminals Ltd. is a privately-held entity by AMCI Group, Riverside Holdings and the Lax Kw’alaams Band and Metlakatla First Nation and is favoured for its low-cost operations. The facility also offers high-quality and high-performance services within its continuous 24-hour operations, unloading trains at 6,000 tonnes per hour and loading vessels at 9,000 tonnes per hour.

The terminal also handles petroleum coke and can accommodate additional bulk volumes within its annual shipping capacity of 18 million tonnes.

Terminal Operations

Trigon Pacific Terminals Ltd. owns and operates one of the most advanced bulk commodity terminals in its market, handling metallurgical coal, thermal coal, and petroleum coke, primarily from British Columbia and Alberta. The is ISO Certified in ISO 9001 for Quality, ISO 18001 for Environment, and OHSAS 18001 for Health and Safety, and is working to continuously improve efficiency and productivity rates.

 

  1. Unit trains of coal arrive at the terminal in specially designed rail cars made of aluminum
  2. A thaw shed is used during winter months
  3. Two tandem rotary dumpers unload the rail cars into an underground conveyer system
  4. The storage yard is separated by type of coal and by mine
  5. Stacker reclaimers are used to reclaim coal from the storage yard and feed the storage hopper
  6. The storage hopper stages coal for loading onto vessels
  7. A conveyer moves the coal to ship loaders with the fastest loading rate in North America
