We’re Welcoming Beverley Clifton Percival to Our Board of Directors

The Prince Rupert Port Authority has welcomed Ms. Beverley Clifton Percival to our Board of Directors, who brings with her a background in First Nations health services and treaty negotiation in northwest British Columbia.
Ms. Clifton Percival was appointed by Canada’s Privy Council on the recommendation of the Minister of Transport, and begins a three-year term on the board replacing the late Elmer Derrick. Ms. Clifton Percival, whose Gitxsan name is Gumsagayax, is a member of the Hanamuuxw Wilp (house) of the nation in northwest British Columbia.
“On behalf of the Board and our staff, I congratulate and welcome Beverley,” said Mr. Bud Smith, Chair of the Board of the Prince Rupert Port Authority. “Her experience in progressive roles with indigenous organizations in our region will be an invaluable addition to our governance team as the port continues to realize its vision for strategic growth and diversification.”
Ms. Clifton Percival began her career at the ‘Ksan Historical Village in Hazelton, BC as a museum curator before becoming a program coordinator and instructor with Northwest Community College. Recently Ms. Clifton Percival served as a negotiator with the Gitxsan Treaty Society, representing the Gitxsan Hereditary Chiefs to advance legal protection of Gitxsan rights and title. Today she is health director for the Witset First Nation, providing leadership and human resources oversight to ensure health programming and services meet the needs of the organization membership.
“The safe and responsible development of industry in northern British Columbia is something that I have been actively engaged in for the last decade. I am excited to bring my personal and professional experience to the board of the Prince Rupert Port Authority and help guide the growth and development of the Port of Prince Rupert in years to come,” said Ms. Clifton Percival.
