PRPA SUPPORTS CHILDREN’S LITERACY THROUGH BOOK GIFTING PROGRAM

On Family Literacy Day, the Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA) is proud to announce its partnership with North Coast Literacy Now (NCLN) to sponsor Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a book gifting program that provides young children with new books monthly, free of charge. NCLN first launched the initiative in Prince Rupert in spring 2021 and with funding support from PRPA, the organization will continue to offer the program to the community into 2023.

Pitch a project: Community Investment Fund now accepting applications for 2022

Each year, PRPA dedicates a portion of its net income to the Community Investment Fund. Since 2011, over $14 million has been committed to more than 90 projects that support health, arts and culture, education, and recreation for residents of all ages and backgrounds. To start off 2022, PRPA is putting out a call for new proposals that aim to enhance local communities in diverse ways.

PORT OF PRINCE RUPERT SEES DECLINE IN CARGO VOLUMES IN 2021 BUT POISED FOR GROWTH

The Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA) released its annual cargo volumes today – over 25 million tonnes moved through the Prince Rupert Gateway in Northern BC in 2021. Despite this uncharacteristic 23 percent decrease in year-over-year total volume, the Port of Prince Rupert played a vital role in ensuring the movement of essential goods on North America’s West Coast and provided important economic stability for the region through a tumultuous year. With optimistic market forecasts and new capacity coming on stream, the Prince Rupert Gateway has every reason to feel confident about its performance in 2022.
