Prince Rupert boasts North America's fastest growing and most beautiful port - distinctions we plan to keep for years to come.

The Prince Rupert Port Authority is mandated to support Canada's trade activity by facilitating and expanding the movement of cargo and passengers. To achieve this goal, PRPA administers a large geographic area that includes approximately 1000 hectares of federal crown land for terminal-related development, as well as an associated harbour and coastline. Its development emphasizes long-term planning, integrating activities and proactively defining and reducing risk.

Building The Gateway

PRPA's Gateway 2020 vision is a Port growth strategy that ensures the needs of port tenants, future trade opportunities and regional economic development goals are coordinated and balanced.

The plan identifies specific development sites, appropriate general terminal uses, and ensures potential conflicts between future terminal activities are mitigated. It leverages common use infrastructure like Ridley Island's Road, Rail and Utility Corridor to maximize the development opportunity for large bulk terminals within the port. It also prioritizes opportunity for expansion in the Port's intermodal activities and services and integrates them into the broader development.

The result is the sustainable development of a well-planned, integrated and diversified port that anchors the Prince Rupert Gateway.

Fairview Terminal Phase 2

Fairview Container Terminal is located in Prince Rupert, on the West Coast of British Columbia. It was the first dedicated intermodal (ship to rail) container terminal in North America when it began operation in 2007, and has grown to become a major trans-Pacific trade gateway reputable for its speed and reliability. Through an agreement with the Prince Rupert Port Authority, Maher Terminals Holding Corporation of New Jersey operated the terminal from its opening until 2015, when DP World Canada purchased the right to operate the terminal. The original design capacity of the terminal was 500,000 TEU. However effective management and an efficient workforce have seen throughput grow to 776,412 TEUs in 2015.

Prince Rupert Marine Fuels Project

Wolverine Terminals marine fuelling service project is a marine fuel delivery service for the Port of Prince Rupert that will enable cargo vessels anchored or berthed in the Port to fuel locally. Currently, the Port of Prince Rupert does not offer marine fuelling services for cargo vessels, and ships that call on the Port must carry enough fuel to make a round trip or detour to an alternative west coast port for fuel.
