Environmental Engagement Associate


Reporting to the Manager Environmental Compliance, the Environmental Engagement Associate is responsible for administering external engagement activities supporting the overall PRPA Sustainability Program.  Primary activities include liaising with Stewardship Departments of Indigenous Nations, maintaining Indigenous Consultation tracking logs, fulfilling public reporting requirements in support of environmental assessments, records management for the environmental compliance audit program, and administering environmental incentive programs with port partners.

The position will also provide ongoing administrative support for Sustainability program staff related to progress reporting, management reports, correspondence, etc. 


  1. Liaise with stewardship representatives of Indigenous groups to respond to information requests, maintain shared engagement reports, and coordinate environmental review referrals.
  2. Maintain Indigenous consultation tracking logs and consultation records. 
  3. Administer Green Wave Environmental Incentive Program for vessels. 
  4. Compile and retain data collected through environmental sustainability programs. 
  5. Facilitate environmental data sharing with Port partners and Indigenous communities through various project and sustainability program committees  
  6. Maintain and organize records associated with the environmental compliance audit program 
  7. Administer the posting of public engagement opportunities for Port projects on the Impact Assessment Agency public registry system
  8. Maintain and track public comments through environmental review processes
  9. Coordinate the preparation and submission of management reports and track progress for sustainability program deliverables.  
  10. Provide ongoing administrative support regarding the preparation and distribution of formal correspondence, reports, scheduling, organizing meetings and document management.
  11. Performs other duties as directed by the Manager, Environmental Compliance.


  • Works in an office environment  
  • Regular, full-time position (37.5 hours per week). Regular working hours are Mondays to Fridays, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with a 1-hour lunch break (unpaid).
  • May be required to support off-site meetings with external participants. 


Formal Education

  • Technical diploma or university degree or combination of education and experience

Related Experience

  • Experience in records management
  • Three or more years of related experience

Other Requirements

  • Good spoken and written communications skills  
  • Comfortable with public and stakeholder engagement
  • Proficient in MS Office environment
  • Provide proof of full vaccination against COIVD-19 with a vaccine approved by Health Canada
  • Able to obtain security clearance under Transport Canada’s Security Clearance Program
  • Possess minimum valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence
